Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides is under intense scrutiny from supporters to resign from her position following her inability to prevent a fourth consecutive loss in the WNBA 2024 season.
Despite Caitlin Clark’s exceptional performance, the Fever suffered an 88-84 defeat against the Connecticut Sun and have yet to secure a victory in the league this season.
The Indiana Fever head coach exposes Caitlin Clark’s struggle in her WNBA debut. This game marked the closest the Fever have come to breaking their winless streak following significant losses against the New York Liberty over the weekend. Even in their initial match against the Sun, they suffered a 92-71 defeat.
However, the pivotal moments in this specific game are where the Fever encountered difficulties. Some have suggested that they could have extended the game into overtime if Aliyah Boston hadn’t missed her crucial lay-up attempt to equalize the score.
While many have criticized Boston and Clark for their performance below their usual standards, others have directed their criticism towards Coach Sides for a crucial tactical mistake.
Numerous fans voiced their dissatisfaction on social media, highlighting that Boston, rather than their standout player Clark, was entrusted with the final shot. Given the rookie’s performance at that stage of the game, finishing with the highest points for the team at 17, it appeared to be a lapse in judgement.
Christie Sides under pressure from fans
One fan even called on Sides to resign from her position after the game for botching the call and ignoring Clark.
“You coach the Indiana Fever, you haven’t won a WNBA game, you’re 2 down, you have the last shot, you have Caitlin Clark, and you call a play for Aliyah Boston? Coach gotta go,” a frustrated fan said.
Another commenter said, “You gotta give Caitlin Clark the ball in crunch time.”
“Aaliyah Boston just looked off Caitlin Clark to smoke a wide open lay up to tie the game ……”, another added.
While firing Sides, 47, at this point may be the easy option, there has been some progress made since the first game. But another defeat against the Seattle Storm on May 23 could crank up the heat.
