Chet Hanks did not have an easy time growing up with very famous parents.
His father is Oscar-winner Tom Hanks – best known for Forrest Gump and Sleepless In Seattle – and his mother is actress and singer Rita Wilson.
Chet has shared on his new show Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets that he felt awkward with the public’s reaction to him being a kid of a superstar.
‘I’ll tell you something about my childhood. People think that being Tom Hanks’ son, like, I would grow up feeling like I was the s***,’ Chet said on the season premiere on Tuesday.
‘I actually grew up feeling completely f***ing worthless.’
It was not the fault of Tom and Rita; rather it was strangers who had pre-conceived notions of what he would be like.

It was not the fault of Tom and Rita; rather it was strangers who had pre-conceived notions of what he would be like.
‘People treated me like, “You must think you’re better than me” when I didn’t. I just wanted to be friends with everybody and be treated like everybody else,’ he told his costars, including Kim Zolciak Biermann, Josie Canseco and O.T. Genasis.
‘But what am I supposed to do? Walk through the doors and be all meek and timid? That was a mind f*** for me to deal with.’
Chet continued, ‘If you do walk in through the door and you’re like, “Here I am mother f***er,’ then it’s like, “Oh look at you arrogant son of a b****.”
‘I did internalize all that negativity. Maybe I am f***ing worthless, you know what I’m saying?’
It was a ‘battle for me mentally and emotionally just to be able to walk outside, look someone in the eye and say, “What’s up? I’m Chet,”‘ said the budding actor.
His parents have supported him venting on the reality TV show,
‘The Surreal Life is a different kind of show. It’s not messy and negative,’ he explained to UsWeekly.

‘It’s more about personal growth and relationships with people and vulnerability. It’s a completely different type of reality TV. I had full support in doing it.’
Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets airs Tuesday nights on MTV at 9 p.m. ET.
He also said that life has become ‘extremely easy’ since he achieved sobriety.
The 33-year-old actor has previously been through rehab for addiction and as he prepares to show the world that he is ‘just a regular guy’ on the new reality show, he admitted that he only found life ‘difficult’ before he made the decision to live alcohol-free almost three years ago.
He told People: ‘I’m ready for people to see that I’m just a regular guy. That’s why I signed up for ‘Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets’.
‘It was honestly one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m not just saying that. I had a blast, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
‘There was a little drama, but not much!
‘One hundred percent. None of this would be possible without sobriety. It’s not difficult at all. What’s difficult is when you’re trying to manage your life and you’re not sober, that’s what’s difficult. When you just commit and decide and you stick to it, it’s not even something that you negotiate with. It’s just a non-negotiable. And life becomes extremely easy.’
The former Empire star is looking forward to making a return to acting as he gears up to star opposite Kate Hudson in the Netflix drama Running Point and also releasing some new music in the near future.
He said: ‘I have a new big role on a Netflix show with Kate Hudson, that will be out around January.
‘I have a great character in it, a great role. It’s a comedy, so it’s funny and I get to be comedic. I also signed a record deal, and I’m getting ready to put out some new music, and it’s different than anything that I’ve ever released.’
