Democratic state Sen. Nicole Mitchell, 47, was arrested and booked into the Becker County Jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary.

According to the complaint, Mitchell allegedly entered through a window and told investigators that she was attempting to retrieve her father’s ashes, photos, a flannel shirt, and other sentimental items. Mitchell claimed that her stepmother had denied her access to these belongings.

“I was just trying to get a couple of my dad’s things because you wouldn’t talk to me anymore,” Mitchell allegedly said to her stepmother as officers arrested her.

Mitchell, who represents Minnesota’s Senate District 47 and was elected in 2022, faced allegations detailed in a complaint stating that one of the laptops found in her possession belonged to her stepmother, who denied giving it to her. Mitchell, however, disputed this claim.

Fox News Digital reached out to Becker County Attorney Brian McDonald for comment but had not received a response at the time of reporting.

Hailing from Woodbury, Mitchell has a diverse background, having worked as a meteorologist for KSTP-TV and Minnesota Public Radio. Additionally, she holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.
