Sports radio host Dan Patrick recently shared his take on the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year debate, giving his nod to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.

Following the Fever’s 81-74 victory against the talented Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, Patrick shared his thoughts on the ROTY conversation.

“This is a silly argument. Caitlin Clark is the rookie of the year,” Patrick said. “Angel Reese is a wonderful player, absolutely. She plays hard on both ends, but she’s not the rookie of the year,” he added.

The longtime radio host compared Clark to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, explaining that Clark’s ability to pass at an elite level has helped open doors for Indiana. Patrick also noted that while people had always labeled the rookie out of Iowa as a scorer, she has proven to have a high IQ on all levels of the offensive game.

WNBA fans seem to be in agreement with Patrick’s argument, as he went into detail on why Clark deserves the award. “He makes it make sense,” said one fan.

Clark is currently averaging 16.8 points and 7.8 assists per game. She’s listed as the league’s No. 14 player in points per game while being No. 1 overall in assists.

On the other side of the argument, Reese has made an incredible impact on the Sky, averaging 13.5 points and 12.0 rebounds, but Patrick believes Clark’s leadership on a young team puts her above the rest of the rookie class.

Patrick also mentioned that WNBA fans aren’t giving Clark enough credit because she was expected to make an immediate impact as the top overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.

“We’re creating arguments here, and really, there’s none,” Patrick continued. “Angel Reese has had a really good year… Caitlin Clark has a bullseye on her back every single game. You must stop her. I don’t think you look at Chicago and go, ‘If we stop Angel Reese, we’re going to win.'”

Clark and the Fever currently stand as the No. 7 seed in the WNBA standings, while Reese and Chicago sit at No. 8. Patrick justified his take by saying the Fever rookie has dealt with a difficult schedule, but Indiana has still shown signs of success.

“It’s not even close. I’d say she’s the MVP too. She’s head and shoulders above the dreck in the WNBA,” said another fan in agreement with Patrick’s take.
