There were more than a few standout moments during Saturday’s highly-anticipated WNBA All-Star Game. Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark
got the nod to start for Team WNBA as she did all she could to help lift her team against a highly motivated Team USA squad.
In the end, Clark and the WNBA All-Stars prevailed, 117-109, with the Fever guard scoring just four points, but dishing out no less than 10 dimes to set a new rookie WNBA All-Star Game assists record.
Clark had to work for every single one of her dimes, though, with the Team USA players hounding her all night long. One moment with Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum, in particular, has now gone viral as some fans believe that this is living proof that the national team was “terrified” of the 22-year-old superstar.
Plum really pressed Clark full court in this sequence, which is not exactly a common occurrence in exhibition games such as this one.
To be fair, Team USA was not messing around here, and they applied some intense defense against the entire WNBA All-Star squad throughout the contest. Nevertheless, more than a few supporters on X, formerly Twitter, are adamant that the national team paid extra attention to Clark.
“We really watched a rookie get guarded like this in an All Star game They’re absolutely terrified of her 😭” said a Clark-dedicated X account.
“‘They’re not picking her up full court,'” sarcastically commented a fan.
“They were double teaming her, trapping her, and guarding her all the way up the floor. Like a regular season game. You know Reeve told them to not let her go off on em,” pointed out another.
“She is to the WNBA what Jordon was to the NBA,” surmised a fan.
“She made Kelsey Plum look like a chump CC shed her then made a beautiful pass for an easy 2
“What’s easy to forget is CC’s ‘level of difficulty’ when it comes to doing ANYTHING on the court. She’s blanketed all game, yet still can drop 24 point and 19 asst,” pointed out a supporter.
“Yup but they can’t stop her assists 💪” read a comment.
As that last one said, Clark was still able to dish out an eye-popping dime despite Plum’s menacing defense. You can understand why the Rookie of the Year frontrunner was totally hyped after making that assist.
