NEW YORK (AP) — Adding another accolade to her already impressive list of achievements, Taylor Swift was awarded an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University (NYU) on Wednesday. The superstar, known for her Grammy-winning music career, received the prestigious title amidst cheers and applause from a packed crowd at Yankee Stadium.

Sporting her trademark red lipstick and the newly bestowed honorary robe, Swift charmed the audience as she humorously remarked, “I’m 90% sure the main reason I’m here is because I have a song called ’22’.” Despite not having a traditional college experience, Swift reminisced about her unconventional education, mentioning her transition from public high school to homeschooling in airport terminals during her teenage years.

Reflecting on her journey as a singer-songwriter, producer, and director, Swift recounted her early days in the music industry, starting her career at the young age of 15 by touring various radio stations across the country. With over 100 million albums sold and numerous accolades, including three Grammy wins for Album of the Year, Swift’s impact on the music industry has been profound.

During her commencement speech, Swift shared words of wisdom with the class of 2022, emphasizing the importance of effort and perseverance. “Never be ashamed of trying. Effortlessness is a myth,” she advised, drawing from her own experiences of pursuing her dreams.

Acknowledging the inevitability of mistakes and setbacks, Swift reassured graduates that resilience is key to overcoming challenges. “When hard things happen to us, we will recover, we will learn from it, we will grow more resilient because of it,” she said confidently, adding a touch of humor by quipping, “I am a doctor now so I know how breathing works.”

In closing, Swift expressed her pride in sharing the special moment with the graduating class, encouraging them to embrace the future with optimism and determination. “We’re doing this together so let’s just keep on dancing like we’re the class of ’22,” she concluded, leaving the audience inspired and uplifted by her empowering message.
