According to coach Tata Martino, Inter Miami’s President David Beckham and his associates are racing to finalize paperwork for former soccer star Redondo’s son, Federico Redondo, to join the first team this week.
Inter Miami’s President, David Beckham, along with co-owners Jorge Mas and Jose Mas, completed the signing of talented midfielder Federico Redondo, 21, son of former star Fernando Redondo, earlier this week. However, Federico Redondo was unable to play in the Inter Miami vs. LA Galaxy match on February 26 (ended in a 1-1 draw).
“Federico Redondo is perfectly fine. He just finished competing in the Olympic 2024 qualifiers with the U-23 Argentina national team, so he’s in perfect physical condition. We’ve been closely monitoring and observing Federico Redondo, and he will soon join training with the first team. His delay in playing is due to paperwork issues, not physical fitness or adaptation to the environment,” explained coach Tata Martino, addressing concerns from the US media after the Inter Miami drew with LA Galaxy away on February 26th.
According to AS (Spain): “Federico Redondo’s paperwork will be completed soon, possibly within this week. Inter Miami’s President, David Beckham, has strong relationships with the MLS organizers, so this shouldn’t be a major issue.
In fact, with the impact of Inter Miami’s progress and Messi’s influence, along with the signing of promising talent Federico Redondo, the American soccer authorities have discussed changing transfer rules this week, allowing clubs to spend more money to acquire top stars for the MLS.”
Federico Redondo signed a contract with Inter Miami under the “MLS Initiative U-22” for youth teams, valid until 2027 with an option for the following year. The contract value is $8 million, but if Inter Miami transfers Federico Redondo in the future, they will have to pay back 15% of the value to the player’s former club, Argentinos Juniors (Argentina).
Federico Redondo also stated that joining Inter Miami is a dream come true as he wants to play alongside the legendary Messi.
This dream is about to become a reality, as Federico Redondo is set to be promoted to Inter Miami’s first team and could make his debut in the match against Orlando City SC at 4:30 PM on March 3rd, in the third round of the 2024 MLS season. Following this match, Inter Miami will enter the regional arena with the first leg match in the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against either Nashville SC (USA) or Moca (Dominican Republic) at 9:00 PM on March 8th.
Therefore, the addition of Federico Redondo to Inter Miami’s lineup will strengthen the team, helping former star David Beckham’s team aim for championship titles including the MLS, CONCACAF Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, and US Open Cup.
