Russia warns that the US’s $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan will “exacerbate the global crisis.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on April 20 called the US House’s passage of the military aid package for Ukraine “direct support for terrorist activities” and the aid to Taiwan “interference in China’s internal affairs.”
China regards Taiwan as a territory awaiting reunification and does not rule out the use of force.
In a post on Telegram, Ms. Zakharova simultaneously criticized the US aid package for Israel as “a direct path to making the situation in the region worse than ever before.”
“The US actions in allocating military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan will exacerbate global crises,” emphasized the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
Earlier the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the decision to provide aid to Ukraine would only “enrich the US further and harm Ukraine even more.”
The US House recently passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill, providing $60.84 billion for military support to Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel, and $8.12 billion for the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan. The bill had been delayed for months due to opposition from some Republican members of the House.
In addition to aid for allies, this spending package also includes provisions for transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, sanctions targeting Iran, Hamas forces, and requiring China’s ByteDance company to sell TikTok or face a ban in the US.
The US Senate begins consideration of the bill on April 23, and it is almost certain to be passed, paving the way for President Joe Biden to sign it into law.
