LA Lakers fans online were hyped up about the planned documentary on the NBA bubble in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which culiminated with their team winning the title. They took to social media and expressed their thoughts on the development.

As per reports, Disney and ESPN are in the process of working on the documentary “The Bubble.” This project will feature a behind-the-scenes look into the the league as it worked its way through the pandemic-hit 2020 season from the tailend of the regular season all the way to the NBA Finals.

The Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, went on to become the last team standing, defeating the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals in six games.

Fans of the purple and gold jumped into the conversation on the documentary being worked on, expressing their excitement. They took to X, formerly Twitter, and below are what some of them had to say.

“‘It’s gonna be better than The Last Dance”

An enthusiastic fan boldly made this claim while making reference to the popular Netflix docuseries on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ final championship run in the ’90s.”

“‘This is gonna be legendary,’ another user asserted.”

“Still another from one fan said, ‘WE WILL BE WATCHING.'”

Some comments, meanwhile, spotlighted the LA Lakers squad that won the title and the difficult journey that it had to go through.

“‘Documentary of the hardest championship in league history that’s a W,’ wrote one fan.”

“‘Top 3 hardest championship with the others being LeBron 3-1 comeback and Dirk’s 2011,’ a user laid down.”

“‘Bubble hoops so underrated,’ another maintained.

Then there were some who channelled their focus on the pandemic, which forced everything into a bubble.

“‘Something we’ll hopefully never have to live through again,’ one fan said.”

In the bubble, competing teams were held in a quarantine at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida, for the final eight games of the regular season and throughout the playoffs. Twenty-two out of the 30 NBA teams were invited to participate, with the other eight already out of contention for the playoffs.

LA Lakers’ playoff road to the 2020 NBA title

The LA Lakers, the top seeds in the Western Conference, opened their playoff bid in the 2020 NBA bubble against Portland Trail Blazers, winning the series in five games to advance to the next round.

In the conference semifinals, they met the Houston Rockets. They limited the dynamic duo of James Harden and Russell Westbrook on their way to a 4-1 series win.

The LA Lakers then faced the Denver Nuggets in the West finals. LeBron James and Anthony Davis dominated on the offensive end. ‘The King’ punctuated his impressive series performance with a triple-double of 38 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in the series-clinching Game 5.

In the NBA Finals, the Lakers met the Cinderella team Miami Heat, who toppled higher-seeded teams in the East to make it to the Big Dance. But Miami faced a wall in Los Angeles in the Finals despite a gallant stand, losing in six games.

The championship title was the 17th for the LA Lakers in their storied history.
