The best season in Indiana State basketball history since Larry Bird ended when the team lost to Seton Hall at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the NIT championship game. That loss took a visible toll on Robbie Avila, who had become the face of the Sycamores’ resurgence this NCAA season.
Avila, Indiana State’s first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference forward, could be seen with his hands on his knees seconds after what would have been a game-winning 3-pointer bounced off the front rim.
Seton Hall coach Shaheen Holloway came over, lifted Avila’s chin, and encouraged him.
This is bigger than basketball, and what it’s really about. Shaheen Holloway telling Robbie Avila to keep his head up is the best thing you will see today:

Robbie Avila had a dream for the 2023 NCAA season for Indiana State Sycamores coach Josh Schertz, who was named the new head coach at Saint Louis.
With increased eyes on him, Robbie Avila can likely have his pick of any big NCAA program in the country that would love to have his talents on their team.
Robbie Avila Had Dream 2023 NCAA Season For Indiana State
As a sophomore this season, the previously lightly recruited player showed he could be a force by averaging 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting an efficient 53.6% from the field and 39.4% from 3 via ESPN.com.
With his play, he would help lead Indiana State to a 32-7 record, the Sycamores’ most wins in a season since 1978-79, when Bird guided the team to the NCAA championship game.
