Venus Williams’ expression while sitting next to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the ESPY Awards was a sight to behold – ‘if looks could kill,’ they would have, says one correspondent.

Prince Harry picked up the prestigious Pat Tillman Award at the event last week, but the Duke of Sussex’s controversy of winning the accolade upset Tillman’s mother in the lead-up to the event. The 39-year-old attended the ‘glittering’ ceremony with his wife Meghan Markle, with the duo in the front row. However, when Prince Harry jumped up to appear on stage, Venus Williams’ reaction as she looked over to Meghan Markle tells an interesting story, say fans.

Fans are now doubting their relationship with the sporting sisters after the viral video appeared to show the royal being snubbed by the older sibling.

Royalists think she snubbed the dad-of-two, as she didn’t applaud when he got up, nor stand like the rest of the audience. Photos from the event also saw her stare at Meghan as she rose to her feet to clap her husband.

The five-time Wimbledon champion’s actions were picked up by fans.

One wrote: “Loved seeing Venus giving Harry and Megsie the ‘side eye’….no standing ovation or clapping.”

Another penned: “Harry must feel the disgust emanating from Venus.”

Harry said he was one of the ‘esteemed’ individuals receiving the accolade, and appeared to try to smooth things over in his acceptance speech at the awards show.

He highlighted the ‘eternal bond’ between mother and son, appearing to be a nod to the NFL star and his mother Mary, as well as his own mother Princess Diana.

Not only that, but Serena Williams also made a joke at their expense. Awkward.

Royal correspondent Rupert Bell spoke about the event on TalkTV.

He said: “[Prince Harry] got the Pat Tillman award, which caused a bit of controversy feeling [over] ‘was he worthy of it?’, and Tillman’s mother criticized that Harry got the award.”

“Venus Williams, brilliant tennis player, Serena, her sister was presenting the award, and you’ve got to look at basically frozen in time, [it was] ‘if looks could kill’.”

“The anti-Harry and Meghan brigades are latching onto it,” Bell explained.

“Everyone else is standing up and Venus doesn’t stand up, so that might be an indication the relationship between Venus and Meghan isn’t all that strong.

“Serena Williams was part of one of Meghan’s initial podcasts that she did, the Archetypes podcast, which subsequently were cancelled by Spotify.”

“Anyway, she was presenting the award, but it looks like her elder sister wasn’t too enamored as sitting as close as that to Meghan and Harry.”

He admitted: “I don’t know whether she doesn’t like Meghan, but clearly that picture doesn’t present the relationship in a very good light.”
