Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner found herself under fire after correcting an interviewer who called her a “mom” by saying she was a “pops.” The center, who is getting ready to represent the United States in the upcoming Paris Olympics, shared details of her life after having a child with her wife.

Ahead of the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, Brittney Griner sat down in an interview with CBS Sports. When the reporter told her she was about to be a mom, she repeatedly said she would be a “pops.”

“There’s probably one other job that you’re about to get into that is really hard and really scary. You’re about to be a mom,” the reporter said.

“A pops. Pops. Pops. Pops,” Griner replied.

That correction shocked a lot of people who didn’t hesitate to call her out for talking about herself as a man and playing in a women’s league.

One fan mocked her, saying she was having it great as she was getting paid for playing with women (as a “pops”):

“He is living the good life. Getting paid to play with women.”

Others wondered why she was playing in the WNBA instead of trying her chances in the NBA.

“If he identifies as a man then why is he in the WNBA?”one fan asked.

“WNBA need to ban this man from the league,” another fan said.

“If she refers to herself as ‘pops’ then why would she want to play in a women’s league?” another fan wondered.

Others joked about the situation and how she would fare in the NBA.

“Shorty u play “womens” basketball,” one fan wrote.

Brittney Griner shared details of her life with a kid

Brittney Griner explained how great it feels to have a baby at home. She calls him “her man” while acknowledging that everything she heard before about the change of priorities happened to her.

“He is amazing,” Griner said. “They say as soon as you see him, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window, and that’s literally what happens.

“It kind of sucks because I’ve got to leave, but at the same time, he’ll understand. My whole phone is turned into him now.”

Brittney Griner is set to get another gold medal with Team USA after winning one in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
