Mayor Bruce Teague of Iowa City has unveiled the remarkable revenue figures attributed to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes during the 2023 season.
Although the Hawkeyes fell short in the national championship game for the second consecutive year, succumbing to the South Carolina Gamecocks in Sunday’s final, the journey was memorable for both the team and its supporters.
The championship also marked Clark’s farewell to college basketball as she transitions to the WNBA after four stellar seasons. Departing the Hawkeyes, she leaves behind an indelible mark, with Mayor Teague disclosing that the team amassed a staggering $82 million in revenue throughout the season, as reported by Rivals beat writer Eliot Clough.
Attendance at Iowa’s games in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena remained at capacity throughout the season, despite notable increases in ticket prices. Evidently, fans were more than willing to invest in the experience.

“We always knew your jersey would be hanging in the rafters. It is a privilege for me to now make that official,” athletic director Beth Goetz said at an end-of-season event at Carver-Hawkeye Arena this week. “You will be the last to wear No. 22.”
“It’s super incredible, something I’m very thankful for,” Clark said. “That number holds a lot of weight, far beyond me. I’m really grateful, and it will be a special day when it happens.”
Clark is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever later this month.
