Caitlin Clark is quickly forming connections in Indiana.
During a nighttime photo session on Wednesday, the top WNBA draft pick, along with her Fever teammates, engaged in an ice-breaking moment. Two teammates lent Clark some chains to wear, as captured in a video shared on X by the Fever, showcasing the camaraderie behind the scenes. Erica Wheeler and NaLyssa Smith offered Clark their chains, and she sported them with a grin, playfully even pretending to take a bite out of Smith’s jewelry.

The atmosphere was jovial, with laughter echoing as Clark and her teammates enjoyed the moment. Clark even jokingly apologized for the playful nibble. Smith shared the video on her Instagram Story, accompanied by four crying-laughing emojis, while Wheeler did the same, adding a selfie with Clark and a group photo of the Indiana squad posing in the streets of Indianapolis.
These light-hearted moments off-court contrast with the Fever’s previous season performance, finishing 13-27. However, with the addition of Clark, the all-time leading scorer in Division I basketball, both women’s and men’s, from her remarkable career at Iowa, hopes are high for a turnaround.
Clark’s presence in the league has sparked significant interest, evident in the surge in ticket sales announced by Stubhub, which reported a remarkable 93 percent increase in WNBA ticket sales compared to the previous year. Fever ticket sales have particularly surged, increasing thirteen-fold following Clark’s selection in the draft.
Clark expressed eagerness to kick off the season, with preseason action against the Wings starting on Friday, and the regular-season opener against the Sun scheduled for May 14.
“I think no matter what happens there’s going to be expectations and pressure on my shoulders and pressure on this team to be really good. That’s how you want it,” Clark said Monday, according to the Associated Press. “We wouldn’t want anything else. We want people showing up to our games, people expecting us to win a lot of basketball games this year and I’m expecting myself to play really well. I don’t think it’s anything that’s ever been different for me.”
