An old viral video capturing a passionate moment between former Iowa teammates Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark has resurfaced on X. The clip was from the Final Four in April, when Iowa trailed UConn at halftime before winning 71-69 to advance to the national championship game.
The video shows Martin giving an intense pep talk to Clark. It highlights the fiery spirit between the two, which has now transitioned into their professional careers in the WNBA.
In the video, Clark asks Martin about the score, to which she replies:
“We’re down six. All right, and our shots are gonna fall. I mean, Caitlin, you’re a f***ing dog. Like, we have the most confidence in you ever, so you’re fine.”
Caitlin Clark had a sloppy first half as she shot just 3 of 11. However, Iowa displayed a masterclass in the second half, defeating UConn and reaching the championship game against South Carolina. Clark concluded the game with 21 points, while Kate Martin scored 11 points.
The game ended with a controversial foul with just 3.9 seconds remaining when UConn was trailing by a single point, giving the ball back to Iowa. Shortly after that, Clark was fouled by Paige Bueckers and made 1 of 2 free throws.
However, having lost the 2023 NCAA championship game against the LSU Tigers, Iowa lost in the title game again. Caitlin Clark’s dominating performance of 30 points couldn’t lead Iowa to the victory as it lost 87-75 to undefeated South Carolina.
Caitlin Clark playfully makes fun of Kate Martin’s Iowa visit
Kate Martin used the WNBA break to visit her alma mater recently. She wore a loose T-shirt in a video posted by the Iowa women’s basketball team on Instagram. Caitlin Clark used the opportunity to playfully roast her by posting the video in her Instagram Story, where she wrote:
“Why are u so fitted? @katemartin.”
The No. 1 and the No. 18 picks in the 2024 WNBA draft, Clark and Martin, had a lot of success playing together. They are currently living their dream of playing in the WNBA for the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces, respectively. Clark has an average of 17.1 points per game, while Kate Martin has an average of 3.6 ppg.
