Anne Hathaway has played an heir to the throne in The Princess Diaries, but in real life the royal she looks up to is Duchess Of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

The 31-year-old actress spoke about her elegant role model during an appearance on Good Morning America to promote her new animated flick Rio 2 on Tuesday during which she accentuated her chic dress with a pair of thick glasses.

The highlight of Anne’s interview came when she was presented with a question on Instagram from a six-year-old little girl named Sammy, who wanted to know who HER favourite princess was.

Anne put on her specs to see watch the Instagram video and then replied, ‘Kate Middleton… even though she’s really a Duchess.’

‘I think she’s lovely,’ she added. ‘She makes me very happy and that royal wedding just could not be beat.’

Anne then said that she thought Sammy was a princess too.

The actress started off the morning by making an interesting choice as far as her outfit was concerned.

She was wearing a long-sleeved, A-line dress made of a shiny, red-patterned fabric, opaque black stockings and black high-heeled pumps.

Anne also kept a pair of large-frame spectacles handy when she needed them as she explained it was too early in the day to be wearing contact lenses.

She also brought the coat she’d arrived to New York in the day before, a bulky grey and black patterned thing that looked more like a blanket.
