The sports world has been buzzing about former Iowa Hawkeyes and current Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and a lot of notable people were in attendance for today’s game. The Indiana Fever were taking on the defending WNBA Champion New York Liberty and South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley was in attendance in the celebrity row.
The game saw the Indiana Fever drop to 3-0 on the season after a 91-80 road loss to the Liberty. Clark struggled a bit but was able to produce at a similar rate that we have been used to seeing her do in her collegiate days.
Caitlin Clark played 34 minutes and finished with 22 points, six rebounds, eight assists, one steal and eight turnovers while finishing with a +/- of -9. Her shooting was more consistent though as she finished 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-10 from beyond the arc without attempting a single free-throw.
When does Caitlin Clark play next?
Caitlin Clark’s next game will be on Monday evening as the Indiana Fever return home to take on the Connecticut Sun. This will be a rematch of the season-opening game where the Sun had a 92-71 victory in Connecticut for Clark’s debut in the WNBA on May 14.
What should we expect from Dawn Staley this upcoming college basketball season?
Dawn Staley led the South Carolina Gamecocks to an undefeated national championship season. Her team had a lot of freshmen and underclassmen so they should be threats to just continue their dominance as the Gamecocks attempt to create a dynasty.
Dawn Staley continues to climb up the list of best college basketball coaches of all time as she has won three of the previous seven national championships (2020 had the NCAA Tournament canceled) and made the Elite Eight in every season except for 2018-19 during that run. With the immense talent and Staley being 440-106 in her coaching career, things are likely to be the same with South Carolina steamrolling the field.
